Perhaps it is the pace of medicine or the compassion and commitment of people who care for sick people, whatever the reason our experience is that many healthcare workers who are paid by the hour tend to work time for which they are not paid. If you are a nurse or hourly employee employed by a hospital, doctor’s office, clinic or other healthcare entity and you worked "off-the-clock" at any time, you may be eligible to recover your lost wages, if:

• Your employer’s payroll system automatically deducts your lunch time from your paychecks, even when you work through all or part of your lunch break and are not paid for that time.
   
• Perform work before or after you clock in or after you clock out for the day without being paid for this work.
   
• If you are required to participate on committees or other projects.  If this participation is mandatory or if said voluntary participation benefits the employer, the employer may be required to pay for that time as wages.  Such employees may also be eligible to recover lost wages.
   
• You perform work without pay.
